People are still blaming the economic catastrophe on the banks?
How about some accountability for the people who took these bad loans. It is more than ridiculous to assume just because someone (bank) offers you a home loan that you can afford it. What about all the people who decided to forgo the traditional savings buildup for emergency funds and the buildup of funds for a reasonable down payment. We want to hold them (banks) accountable but where is the accountability for the HUGE part the American public played in this by NOT reading and not having the gumption to turn down a loan (for a home) they knew they could not afford to begin with, America used to be more than what we are now… a land of entitlement sans hard work.
I’m not saying the banks did not play a part, they made the loan however, it is a huge mistake to solely penalize the banks and to continue to scrutinize them when the american public had a hand in 50% of what we are suffering now. It took two (2) people to cause this the “big bad banks” & the person who signed for the loan (gee wonder who that was?).
The continued persecution of the banks just makes Americans look weaker, not the strong innovative people who can overcome any obstacle, but people yammering for someone else to handle their problems for them. In the land of petitions that America is now we should start a petition to get Americans reading again, to open the eyes of America, to have politicians in Washington who are actually there for the people and vote on bills and laws that will benefit the American people regardless of the danger to their re-election bid.
If we are going scrutinize the banks balance sheets maybe we need to be looking at each others balance sheets and start chastising each other for not saving money and buying things on credit we can’t afford?
Because again as the old adage says “It takes two”
